DFW Style Daily: Watters Bridal Preps Romantic Runway for Fashion For A Passion 2014

by Leah Frazier | DFWStyleDaily.com | Published September 26, 2014 | As the first week of fall concludes, excitement builds for one of the leading events of our social season: Fashion For A Passion. Produced by Dallas-based Against The Grain Productions, this annual fundraiser has garnered widespread attention and continues to gain support for its extraordinary efforts in raising awareness of the Asian American art community.

With its return set for Saturday, November 1, the sixth annual Fashion For A Passion will not only feature an exclusive selection of fashion designers, but also art, music, and dance entertainment.

As our coverage of Fashion For A Passion continues, today we feature one of 2014’s presenting designers, Vatana Watters of Watters Bridal. While busy prepping for the upcoming launch of her Spring 2015 Collection in New York City, Watters found time to offer us exclusive insight into her involvement with the show. Read on for insider details from this first-ever presenting bridal designer in the history of Fashion For A Passion.

FW Style Daily: What prompted this first Fashion For A Passion presentation from Watters? Why was it important for you to be involved?

Vatana Watters: “As an Asian-American woman, I admire the work and the efforts of Fashion For A Passion. The event helps and nourishes talent within the Asian community, while paying it forward around the world.”

Have you collaborated with Against The Grain Productions previously?

“Over the past three years, Watters has donated wedding dresses to be auctioned at Fashion For A Passion. I’m over the moon to be heavily involved as a presenting designer this year.”

How does it feel to be the first bridal designer in the history of the event?

“I’m extremely honored to be the first, and I have to set the bar high. I’m really looking forward to a great night, filled with inspiration for the community, in the company of the other presenting designers. I’m looking forward to seeing the other collections, being a part of a great cause, and supporting emerging talent.”

Care to give us a hint as to what’s in store for the Fashion For A Passion runway?

“All I can say is [that we’ll show] beautifully crafted wedding dresses with exceptional hand-crafted details. This collection is all about love. You will see our love in the details, the delicate embroidery, exquisite fabrications, and luxurious finishes.”

Let’s talk Fall and Winter 2014 bridal trends. What’s your take on the next big developments in this area?

“It’s all about the back – wedding dresses with stunning back details. [We’ll see] everything from an illusion back and low cut backs, to beautifully framed backs with lace motifs and elegant buttons. The dresses will leave a lasting impression.”

Finally, what’s coming up in seasons ahead for Watters Bridal?

“As we fast approach our 30th birthday, we are reflecting on the lifestyle changes of our consumers. We are working on creating a stronger and engaging digital presence, and of course, our 30th anniversary party!”
