The arts are one of the most powerful ways to enlighten, inform and inspire. Yet it is also an area where the Asian American perspective is often overlooked and under or misrepresented. Throughout the year, ATG is proud to meet our two-fold mission to inspire, educate and entertain while supporting our causes through the following:
Against The Grain Productions receives charitable gifts from generous donors and sponsors in the community as well as proceeds from our various cultural and arts events that we produce. These contributions help us support needy orphanages and underprivileged children in Asia, provide artistic and leadership scholarships to talented Asian American student, give scholarships to young Asian American adoptees to attend heritage/culture camps in the U.S. and inspire leadership and mentorship within our community. All of our costs are kept to an absolute minimum so that we can give out the maximum amount we raise.
In total, we raised more than $50,000 in 2014, 100% of which will used in our giving budget for 2015! In 2014, we made the largest contributions to-date for the causes we support.
We gave nearly $20,000 to orphanages in Vietnam and Cambodia, with more than $5,000 in additional funds earmarked for The Philippines and Thailand in 2015.
We provided nearly $1,000 in camp scholarships to young adoptees to attend culture/heritage camps across the country.
We awarded an unprecedented ten scholarships to talented high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students.
In addition, funding from generous donors, sponsors and patrons of our events allow us to develop community outreach events such as Groundbreakers Speak, Fashion for a Passion, Cocktails for a Cause and screenings of Operation Babylift and Asian/Asian American films that educate, entertain and inspire. Additional funds are raised for our supported causes through many of these events.
You Can Help!
We invite you to join us at our events, become a sponsor or give whatever your heart and checkbook allow to support our mission and to help us reach our goal for 2014 of $50,000! Together, we can continue to change the lives of so many across the ocean and here at home.
