Going Against The Grain: Quynh Chau Stone

Quynh Chau Stone

Quynh Chau Stone is an entrepreneur, manufacturer, consultant, international educator, motivational speaker, the host and producer of a radio and TV talk show “The Quynh Chau Show,” a wife, a mother, a friend and most of all a servant to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Quynh Chau escaped from Vietnam at the age of 12 with her four brothers in a small boat built by her brother. After 13 days stranded at sea, they were rescued and placed in a refugee camp in Malaysia for 18 months. Her father was already living in the U.S., working as a janitor and selling egg rolls on the side to raise money. After ten years, he landed a job at Nucor Yamato. Then, with the help of the First Baptist Church of Bytheville, her father was finally able to sponsor them to come to the U.S. with the hope of a new life. Quynh Chau only stayed with her family for seven months, which were some of the toughest times for her.

With the help of three wonderful families, the Johnsons, Brays and Reynolds, she found her new home and refuge at the ABC Children Home, having the opportunity to grow up experiencing America culture, graduating from high school and attending college where she met her college sweetheart and husband. In 2006, she had a second chance to reunite with all her brothers once again.

At a very young age, Quynh Chau studied hair, reflexology and aesthetic in Vietnam and, after arriving in the U.S., continued to advance her skills by studying throughout North America, Europe and Canada. Quynh Chau continues to focus on this profession by educating young students who are very much like herself.

Quynh Chau is also the founder and president of The Source Of Hope, a nonprofit that serves the most vulnerable in society. Through The Source of Hope, Quynh Chau provides more than 1,000 home-cooked meals monthly to the homeless and elderly, hosts a food share program through partnerships and provides more than 27 organization weekly groceries to needy families. Her family and friends could not be prouder of how far she has come and her amazing drive to help change the lives of others.

She is married to her college sweetheart of 22 years Wesley Allen Stone and has two beautiful daughters Nicole Stone “Quỳnh Như”, 20 years old, and Annelise Stone “Quỳnh Nhung”, 14 years old.

What does it mean to you to “Go Against The Grain?”

“To me ‘Going Against The Grain’ means to not take the easy path that others have already made but to go in the direction that the Lord has chosen for me, though it may be rough and uncertain at first.”

What made you decide to pursue a career in this industry?

“Ever since I was seven years old in Vietnam, I was a maid for a family who were very big in the beauty industry. In that country, you must apprentice until your teacher tells you that you’re ready. At the age of 12, my teacher told me that I had a really big talent. Ever since, I have been in the beauty industry.

What have been some of the challenges you faced/lessons you learned as an Asian American in this field?

“Because my business is fairly unique (for now), I’m fortunate in that I have had few challenges other than my own perception of myself and what I offer. I’m constantly having to rise above my desire to play small and, instead, play from a place of courage.”

What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment, and why?

“Just being able to create my own success and carry it through to my family. So founding The Source of Hope, building SpaSource and Stone Construction.”

What’s up next?

“I plan to continue serving under the wing of God and just take every opportunity one step at a time.”

Quote to live by:

“Give a man a fish, and you will feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and he will eat for life.”

“Wesley, my husband, and I live by this quote. It impacted our lives when we were struggling, and we had amazing people who ‘taught us to fish.’ And now we help others through our organization and our student program. We try our hardest to show them the same support and love of Christ as others did for us and our family.”

Sign (Eastern Animal Sign & Western Zodiac):

“Well, my Chinese Zodiac sign, I was born in the year of the Tiger, and my other zodiac, I am an Aquarius.”

Passionate about:

“Helping others, the beauty industry and education!”

Favorite food:

“Anything truly Asian. Love, love, love seafood and soup!”

Can’t live without:

“God and my family!”

I Go Against The Grain #beCAUSE:

“I want to live my life doing what I love, doing what my heart tells me to do, not what other people’s minds tell me. It might not be the smoothest path, but it is my path, and the path Jesus has chosen for me. “
